The government is soon to join a free trade agreement (FTA) with 11 countries in the Indo-Pacific. There are concerns, as with many FTAs, of the animal health and welfare, human health and environmental implications of this agreement.
Similar to the Animal Welfare (Imports of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill, this amendment legislation was included in the Kept Animals Bill and was also tabled by the previous Government before it fell at dissolution.
